John J. “Hunce” Caskey

John J. “Hunce” Caskey, 78, of 616 South Michael Road, St. Marys, passed away Saturday, July 14, 2012 at his residence after a lengthy illness.

He was born January 3, 1934 in St. Marys, son of the late David W. and Isabelle Krieg Caskey, Sr.  He was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of St. Marys High School, Class of 1952.  He was a retired employee of Airco Speer, retiring in 1985.

On June 23, 1956 in the St. Mary’s Church, he married Sarah A. “Sally” Herzing, who survives.  He is also survived by two daughters, Lynn Caskey at home, Suzi Caskey of Long Beach, CA; six sons, John (Marlene) Caskey of St. Marys, Bill (Miriam) Caskey of Long Beach, CA, Mark (Rosemary) Caskey of St. Marys, Steve Caskey and his friend Leslie Neal of St. Marys, Scott (Sarah) Caskey of St. Marys, Joe Caskey of St. Marys; 12 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and three sisters, Alva “Monnie” Kirkland of St. Marys, Elizabeth “Betty” Meacham of St. Marys and Kathy (Jerry) Meyer of St. Marys.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Delores “Lori” Schreiber, Joan Wortman, Bertie Chiappelli and in infancy, Isabelle Caskey; and by four brothers, David W. Caskey, Jr., Donald A. Caskey, and in childhood, Robert Caskey and William Caskey.

Mr. Caskey was a member of the St. Mary’s Church, enjoyed fixing things, going camping and sitting on his front porch.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the St. Mary’s Church on Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at 10:00 AM with the Rev. Frank Ziemkiewicz, OSB officiating.  Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Visitation is at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Monday, July 16, 2012 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM.

Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Special Olympics, PO Box 794, St. Marys, PA  15857.

Although I only had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Caskey once,
I could tell by the sparkle in his eyes and depth of his smile, that he knew his most important life’s work was successful!

I am so sorry to hear about HUNCE!! I can’t believe I am home visiting during this time and feel so blessed to be able to attend the funeral. You are all in my prayers. I have some wonderful memories!!

I am sorry to hear about Huncie. I will always remember his smile each time I saw him. He was a great husband, father, and grandfather. He was a good man! Please know my prayers are with all of you. May he Rest In Peace with the Lord.

I am so glad I had visited Uncle Hunce a few times while home. I will always remember his smile and how much he loved his family. I have such awesome memories! Will miss him so much! Love you Aunt Sal!
