George M. Uhl

George M. Uhl, 83, of 718 Uhl Road, St. Marys, passed away Tuesday evening, April 10, 2012 at the UPMC Hamot Hospital in Erie after a brief illness.

He was born June 18, 1928 in St. Marys, son of the late John T. and Edna Schaberl Uhl.  He was a lifelong resident of the area and was a self-employed plumbing and heating contractor of Feldbauer and Uhl, Inc.

On April 30, 1955 in the Sacred Heart Church, he married Marie T. Wilhelm who preceded him in death on October 23, 1995.

He is survived by two sons, John A. Uhl of St. Marys, George M. Uhl, Jr. and his wife Debbie of DuBois; four daughters, Geralyn Meleason and her husband Paul of Erie, Barbara Herman and her husband Dave of Springfield, VA, Theresa (Tracy) Fugagli and her husband Ken of Erie, Jeanette C. Uhl of Franklin, PA; 10 grandchildren, Matt Herman and his wife Kim of Cary, NC, Kristin Herman, Missy Herman, Paul Meleason, Marie Meleason, Samantha Fugagli, Kenny Fugagli, Michelle Fugagli, Joe Fugagli and Christopher Uhl.

Mr. Uhl was a member of the Sacred Heart Church, an Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in the Second Armored Division, was a member of the American Legion, the Second Armored Division Association and the AARP.

There will be no visitation.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated in the Sacred Heart Church on Friday, April 13, 2012 at 12:00 PM with the Rev. Eric Vogt OSB, Pastor, officiating.  Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Cemetery.  Full military rites will be accorded by the St. Marys Servicemen’s Burial Detail.

Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Sacred Heart Church, 325 Center Street, St. Marys, PA  15857.

George was very special to us. He always treated us not only as family, but as a friend. Anyone lucky enough to have known him certainly had their life enriched greatly by his easy going good nature. Whenever a problem arose that involved our own homes, George unselfishly offered not only his knowledge, but his time to see that we did things correctly and safely. He is truly the last of a special group of people that we were all blessed to have been raised by. God Bless George, we will surely miss you…
