JoAnn Elinor Mohney

JoAnn Elinor Mohney, 78, of 322 West Creek Road, St. Marys, passed onto her Lord on Friday, October 19, 2018, at the UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh, following a thirteen year battle with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.

She was born January 31, 1940, in Kane, daughter of the late Joseph Edward and Lois Allene (Kenny) Streit. JoAnn attended St. Callistus Catholic Grade School and graduated from Kane Area High School, Class of 1958.

On October 24, 1959, in St. Callistus Catholic Church in Kane, JoAnn married Clifford Leroy Mohney, who survives. That same year she moved to St. Marys with her husband and made it her new home.  In the early years she worked at Kantars Department Store before helping her husband during his early business years as an employee at Elcam Tool & Die before becoming a full-time mother and homemaker.

Besides her husband, JoAnn is survived by four children, Lance M. Mohney and his wife Karen, Valerie Hannibal and her husband Craig, Mark D. Mohney and his wife Kelley, and Tim J. Mohney and his wife Brenda, all of St. Marys; 10 grandchildren, Eric, Andrew and Laura Mohney, Ian and Evan Hannibal, Justin, Adam, Shawnee, Brittany, and Kristen Mohney; eight great grandchildren, Michael, Nathaniel, Madelaine, Maddox, Alexandra, Kyah and Kianna Mohney, Akira Schloder; two step grandchildren, Jesse and John Ackley. Also surviving are three siblings, Joseph Edward Streit, Jr. and his wife Charlene of Ocala, FL, Roger Dennis Streit and his wife Vicki of Kane, and Janet Marie Baumgratz and her husband Gary of Waterford, PA; and by numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, JoAnn was preceded in death by a brother, Frank William Streit, on January 16, 1995.

JoAnn was a loving wife, grandmother, and great grandmother who cherished her family dearly and held them as her greatest treasure, making many sacrifices for them while instilling her strength in faith, high morals and values. She was always proud to gather the family to celebrate holidays and birthdays.

As a devout Catholic, JoAnn could be seen in church either at daily mass or as a volunteer cleaning. She lived her life serving others, volunteering at the Hospital Gift Shop, Sacred Heart Cafeteria, Christian Food Bank, or delivering Meals-On-Wheels with her husband.  She was one of the original volunteers creating the Sacred Heart Parish Bakers under Fr. Ananias.

JoAnn had a passion for baking and sewing. Her grandchildren credit her with the best chocolate chip cookies, handmade breads and cinnamon rolls from recipes passed down from her mother and grandmother.  As a quilt maker she made sure that all of her descendants had a personalized hand sewn quilt made by her before she passed onto her Lord.

She will be greatly missed and eternally remembered by all who have had the chance to cross her path.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Sacred Heart Church on Tuesday, October 23, 2018, at 10:00 AM, with the Rev. Michael Gabler, OSB, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Visitation is at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Monday, October 22, 2018, from 5:00 until 8:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Christian Food Bank, PO Box 1033, St. Marys, PA 15857, or to the Sacred Heart Parish, 337 Center Street, St. Marys, PA  15857.
