Irene G. Walter

Irene G. Walter, 86, of 85 Manresa Rd., Annapolis, Md., and a former St. Marys resident, died Friday, November 4, 2011 at the Atria Manresa in Annapolis, Md., after a lengthy illness.

She was born April 16, 1925 in St. Marys, daughter of the late John (Jack) and Sophia Rogalsky Gross.  She was a lifelong resident of St. Marys and was a graduate of St. Marys High School.  She was a former employee of Lord & Taylor in New York City.

On January 23, 1949, in St. Marys, she married Martin Walter, who preceded her in death on June 9, 1994.

She is survived by a daughter, Susan Bernstein (Richard) of Annapolis, Md.; a son, David L. Walter (Ginny) of Potomac, Md.; and four grandchildren, Jeffrey Bernstein, Julie Bernstein, Jacob Levine (Hilary) and Alexis Levine.

She was a member of the Eastern Star, a former president of the St. Marys Country Club Auxiliary, and she enjoyed playing cards with her friends.

Funeral and committal services for Irene G. Walter will be held in the Willowdale Cemetery in Bradford on Thursday, November 10, 2011 at 1:00 PM.

Visitation is at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Thursday morning from 9:00 to 11:00 AM.

Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Hospice of the Chesapeake, 445 Defense Highway, Annapolis, MD, 21407.

You have no idea what fond memories that I have of your family growing up in St. Marys. Your parents were both such loving people. So kind. Your mom had a smile that could light up a room. She had a way of making everyone feel like they were part of the family. I feel very blessed to have those memories. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you.
