Martha V. Baumer

Martha V. Baumer, 98, a resident of Garvey Manor in Hollidaysburg, and formerly of 494 Spruce Street, St. Marys, passed away Monday, October 9, 2017, at Garvey Manor.

She was born June 22, 1919, in Kersey, daughter of the late George and Anna Leismeister Auman. She was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of Kersey High School, Class of 1937.

On June 22, 1938, in the St. Boniface Church, Martha married George E. Baumer, who preceded her in death on November 19, 1999.

She is survived by two daughters, Diane Baumer of St. Marys and Carolyn Rupprecht and her husband John of Glenshaw; two sons, George M. Baumer of Hollidaysburg and Timothy J. Baumer of Wheatland, PA; three grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, Martha was preceded in death by two sons, David and Joseph, in infancy; seven sisters, Bernadette Card, Celeste Bures, Salome Schreiber, Cecelia Cicetello, Mary Durling, Eva Grotzinger, and Imelda Frey, her twin sister; and by four brothers, Paul, Eugene, Francis, and Jerome Auman. She was the last member of her immediate family.

Martha was a member of the Queen of the World Church and the Rosary Altar Society.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Queen of the World Church on Thursday, October 12, 2017, at 10:00 AM, with the Rev. Jeff Noble, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Visitation is at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 11, 2017, from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.

My sympathies to the family. I had the pleasure of meeting “Gramma” as an employee at Garvey Manor. She taught me how to knit and helped me make a baby blanket for my first grandchild. She had to fix many mistakes for me. I will forever think of her while knitting. “You do it right or you don’t do it” is what she would tell me. She will be missed. God bless you all.
