Harry E. Bauer

Harry E. Bauer, 89, a resident of Silver Creek Terrace and formerly of 415 Wolfel Avenue, St. Marys, passed away surrounded by his family on Thursday, August 3, 2017 at the Elk Haven Nursing Home, after a lengthy illness.

He was born March 10, 1928, in St. Marys, son of the late Harry and Margaret Cleary Bauer. He was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of Central Catholic High School, Class of 1946.  Harry also attended the Bliss Electrical School in Washington, DC.  He was a retired employee of the Stackpole Carbon Company, retiring in 1988, after 39 ½ years of service.

On February 24, 1962, in the Queen of the World Church, Harry married Mary M. Cornelio, who survives. He is also survived by two daughters, Ann Marie Brennen and Karen Schneider and her husband George, both of St. Marys; a son, Tim Bauer and his wife Stacey of Mount Joy, PA; nine grandchildren, Gregory Brennen, Nicholas Brennen, Patrick (Shelby) Brennen, Christopher Brennen, Adam (Nicole) Feldbauer, Daniel Feldbauer, Jeffrey Feldbauer, Christina Feldbauer, and Zachary Bauer; and by three great grandchildren, Olivia Black, Lydia Feldbauer, and Jace Feldbauer.  Also surviving are a brother, William M. Bauer and his wife Kathleen of St. Marys; and a sister-in-law, Margaret “Peggy” Bauer of St. Marys.

In addition to his parents, Harry was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Bauer.

Harry was a member of the St. Mary’s Church. He served with the Occupation Army between World War II and the Korean War, and was honorably discharged in 1947.

He loved the outdoors, especially enjoying hiking and fishing. He was an enthusiastic gardener and had worked his garden up until this year.  He was very proud of his tomatoes and would give them away to residents and staff at Silver Creek Terrace.  He was an avid collector of coins, stamps, bottles, insulators, and assorted metal trinkets he dug up while “beeping” all around the area.  Harry was a very social person and he enjoyed having a Straub’s beer with family and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the St. Mary’s Church on Monday, August 7, 2017, at 10:00 AM, with the Rev. Peter Augustine Pierjok, OSB, Pastor, officiating. Full military rites will be accorded by the St. Marys Servicemen’s Burial Detail.  Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Cemetery.
