Virginia P. Herzing

Virginia HerzingVirginia P. Herzing, 91, of 185 Center Street, Elk Towers, and formerly of Hall Avenue, passed away Friday, April 22, 2016, at Pinecrest Manor, after a brief illness.

She was born September 21, 1924, in Metter, GA, daughter of the late Preston and Esther McGowan Lanier. She was a graduate of Metter High School and had resided in St. Marys since 1945.  She was a retired employee of Quality Components, where she had worked for 40 years.

On August 28, 1945, in Savannah, GA, she married Aurelius J. “Brod” Herzing, who preceded her in death on December 4, 2001.

She is survived by a daughter, Judy Wolfel and her husband Richard of St. Marys; four sons, Daniel L. Herzing and his wife Sue of St. Marys, Michael J. Herzing and his wife Lynn of St. Marys, Richard A. and his wife Ann of St. Marys, and Timothy D. Herzing and his wife Shelly of Harrisburg; 14 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; one great great grandson; and by numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, David in infancy; a great grandson, Adam Wolfel; and by four sisters, Beaulah Sapp, Blanche Parmham Hux, Georgia White, and Cleon Williams.

Virginia was a member of the Queen of the World Church, the Rosary Altar Society, and the Catholic Daughters of America. She served as a den mother for Cub Scouts and she enjoyed knitting, sewing, playing cards, and she loved being with her family.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Queen of the World Church on Tuesday, April 26, 2016, at 11:30 AM, with the Rev. Richard Allen, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Visitation is at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Monday, April 25, 2016, from 5:00 until 8:00 PM.
