Maurice CortinovisMaurice J. Cortinovis, 91, formerly of Coal Hollow, and who made his home for the past year and a half with his son and daughter-in-law, Denny and Cindy Cortinovis of South Michael Road, St. Marys, passed away Friday, February 26, 2016, at the UPMC Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh, after a brief illness.

He was born June 7, 1924, in Coal Hollow, son of the late John and Jennie Carrara Cortinovis. He was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of Kersey High School, Class of 1942.  He was employed by the Speer Carbon Company for nine years, the old St. Marys Water Company for 14 years, and was a retired employee of the Stackpole Carbon Company, retiring in 1986 after 27 years of service.

On June 23, 1951, in the Guardian Angels Church, he married Adeline Gornati, who preceded him in death on November 7, 1994.

Mr. Cortinovis is survived by two daughters, Sharon Detsch and her husband Terry of St. Marys and Janet Pfoutz and her husband Roy of St. Marys; a son, Dennis Cortinovis and his wife Cindy of St. Marys; seven grandchildren, Kevin Detsch, Ryan Detsch, Denise Jablonski (Eddie), Emily Fawcett (Chris), Allison Cortinovis, Cain Pfoutz, and Pilar Pfoutz; two great grandchildren, Mila Grace Jablonski and Waylon Thomas Fawcett; a sister, Rose Oreka and her husband Nick of Kersey; four sisters-in-law, Loretta Cortinovis, Anna Agosti, Vicky Gornati, and Betty Gornati; and by many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Amelia Rigard; and by a brother, Lorenzo “Larry” Cortinovis.

Mr. Cortinovis was a member of the St. Boniface Church and was a veteran of WWII, having served in the US Army. He enjoyed his family, playing cards, telling jokes, singing songs, and going to the Adult Day Center.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the St. Boniface Church on Monday, February 29, 2016, at 10:00 AM, with the Rev. Ross Miceli, Pastor, officiating. Full military rites will be accorded by the Fox Twp. Servicemen’s Burial Detail.  Burial will follow in the St. Boniface Cemetery.

Visitation is at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Sunday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.

Denny and family, Sharon and family, Janet and family, I am so sorry to hear the passing of your dad. God bless him, he sure was a great neighbor to my mom and Jim over the years! I was honored to know him and your whole family. Take care, I always had great respect for your family.
