Karen A. Fritz Pontious

Karen PontiousKaren A. Fritz Pontious, 71, of 180 Cuneo Road, Kersey, passed away Sunday, May 3, 2015, at the UPMC Shadyside Hospital in Pittsburgh, following a brief illness.

She was born March 1, 1944 in Niagara Falls, NY, daughter of the late Clarence F. and Beverly B. Scull Fritz.  She was a lifelong resident of the area, was a graduate of Elk County Christian High School, Class of 1962, and received her teaching degree from Villa Maria College.  She was a former employee of the Ridgway School District and had worked at the Office of Human Services of 34 years.

She is survived by her former husband, Irvin Pontious, of Arizona; two daughters, Penny Wonderly and her husband Joe and Jennifer Anderson and her husband Ed, both of Kersey; seven grandchildren, Jonathan DeFrain, Amanda DeFrain, Jacob DeFrain, Dylan Pontious, Alyssa Pontious, Devon Pontious, and Dahlton Pontious; and three great grandchildren, Gavin DeFrain, Olivia Fedorek, and Karmella DeFrain; and one brother, John E. Fritz and his wife Mary of Kersey.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Jason Pontious.

Karen was a member of the St. Boniface Church and the Daughters of the American Revolution.  She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.  She loved her dogs, Rocky, Sugar, and Nanny Mae.

There will be no visitation.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the St. Boniface Church on Friday, May 8, 2015, at 10:00 AM, with the Rev. Ross Miceli, Pastor, officiating.

Memorials, if desired, may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 100 West Station Square Drive, Suite 1900, Pittsburgh, PA  15219 or to the Community Nurses, Inc., 757 Johnsonburg Road, Suite 200, St. Marys, PA  15857.

Penny and Jenny, So very sad to hear about your mother…. She tried so hard to be better…. Bless you all and do the best you can…. How she loved her four legged friends also….. The photo is so lovely, what a smile!!!!!!
