Thomas LewisThomas E. Lewis, Jr., 85, of 372 Comfort Lane, St. Marys, passed away Wednesday, February 18, 2015, at the Pinecrest Manor after a lengthy illness.

He was born May 25, 1929 in Williamsport, PA, son of the late Thomas E. and Marie Brungard Lewis, Sr.  He was a graduate of Philipsburg High School, Class of 1949.  He retired from the Stackpole Carbon Company in the Chemistry Laboratory with 32 years of service.  He was owner of the former Lewis China and Pottery Shop and the former Lewis Tropical Fish in St. Marys and also a past co-owner of Million Dollar Machining.

On June 26, 1951 in the Trinity Methodist Church in Clearfield, he married his wife of 63 years, Barbara “Bobbie” Hipps, who survives.  He is also survived by two daughters, Pamela Lanzel and her husband Joseph of St. Marys and Paula Gleixner and her husband Michael of State College; two sons, Thomas Lewis III of Johnstown and Jeffrey Lewis of St. Marys; four grandchildren, Abby (Jeremy) Cramer of Festerville, PA, Alan Lanzel of Menlo Park, CA, Alison (Patrick) Laninger of Sykesville, MD, and Ryan (Megan) Lanzel of Okatie, SC; one great grandson, Kyle Cramer; and by several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Caram.

Tom was a member of the Shiloh Presbyterian Church and was a former Deacon.  He was a veteran of the US Army, serving from 1951 to 1953 in Germany.  He was a former member and past president of George E. Wagner Masonic Lodge and was a 32 degree member of the Coudersport Consistory.  He was a former member and past president of the St. Marys Lions Club.  Tom served as Justice of Peace for one term in Benzinger Township and as treasurer and member of the Benzinger Township Sewer Authority.  He also served as a committee member of the Elk County Republican Party and worked at the polls for many years.

Tom helped organize the Junior Olympics Wrestling Program in St. Marys and spent many years helping as a coach.  He enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, and planting trees.  Tom also enjoyed any activities in which his grandchildren were involved in.

There will be no visitation.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Service to be held in the Shiloh Presbyterian Church on Saturday, February 28, 2015, at 11:00 AM, with the Rev. Scott Wiest, Pastor, officiating.  Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Cemetery.

I am so very sorry to see of Tom’s passing. I have many, many fond memories of the time we spent together in the St. Marys Lions Club. He was a great friend, and honest and caring man. May you all find comfort in your memories and God’s grace. You all have my deepest sympathy. I loved him like a dad. Patty Kephart

Dear Bobbie & Family,
So very sorry to hear of Tom’s passing. I didn’t know Tom too well, just from meeting him with Bobbie at some of our class reunion meetings.
