Rita S. Geyer

Rita GeyerRita S. Geyer, 96, of 405 Center Street, St. Marys, passed away Saturday, December 6, 2014, at Penn Highlands Elk after a brief illness.

She was born June 9, 1918 in Johnsonburg, daughter of the late Rudolph and Theresa Pompe Seifert.  She was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of Johnsonburg High School, Class of 1937.  She was a former employee of Sylvania in Emporium, the Stackpole Carbon Company, and retired from Pure Carbon in 1980.

On May 17, 1941 in the Holy Rosary Church in Johnsonburg, she married Herbert R. “Red” Geyer who preceded her in death in2011.

She is survived by a daughter, Marilyn Zamboldi and her husband Bob of Naples, FL; two sons, Gerald G. “Gerry” Geyer of St. Marys and Alan H. Geyer and his wife Mary Lou of St. Marys; seven grandchildren, Melissa Young, Kathy Heilenman, Rob Zamboldi, Adam Geyer, Jeff Geyer, Jennifer Geyer, and Justin Geyer; nine great grandchildren; and a sister, Gertrude Geyer of St. Marys.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Alice Gunsallus Geyer; and three sisters, Mary Schinabeck, Mildred Olezewski, and Alice Parrish.

Mrs. Geyer was a member of the Sacred Heart Church and the St. Anne’s Society.  Rita was the “Hub” of her family.  Her most enjoyable times were with her grandchildren and great grandchildren when they came to visit.  She loved them and loved being with them and with her nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Sacred Heart Church on Thursday, December 11, 2014, at 12:00 PM, with the Rev. Eric Vogt, OSB, Pastor, officiating.  Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Visitation is at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Thursday morning from 10:00 to 11:30 AM.
