Frances D. Eckert

Frances EckertFrances D. Eckert, 98, a resident of Elk Haven Nursing Home, and formerly of Bucktail Trail, passed away Thursday, December 4, 2014, at Elk Haven, on her mother’s birthday.

She was born March 8, 1916 in Ridgway, daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Pfingstler Dietz.  She was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of St. Leo’s High School, Class of 1934.  She was a retired employee of the Stackpole Carbon Company, retiring in 1981 after 28 years of service.

On August 17, 1935 in Portageville, NY, she married Herbert G. Eckert, who preceded her in death on February 20, 1976.

She is survived by four daughters, Audrey Adams and her husband George of Hanover, PA, Elaine Mosier and her husband Ken of Kersey, Sylvia Garner and her husband Raymond of St. Marys, and Valerie Rung and her husband Pete of St. Marys; one son, Steven Eckert and his wife Marie of Harrisburg, PA; 18 grandchildren, CC Cirezz, Denise Lengel, Wanda Gutmann, Pete Brehm, Leslie Knisley, Russell Brehm, Marycris Grauel, Corinna Reeves, Charles Eckert, William Eckert, Joette Smith, Donna Muccio, Rhonda Dillon, Deirdre Garner, Brian Mahaney, Holly Mahaney, Jeffrey Mahaney, and Daniel Mahaney; 23 great grandchildren; and 15 step great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Margaret Maiers, Cecelia Gapinski, and Bertha Dietz; and four brothers, Joseph Dietz, Paul Dietz, Carl Dietz, and James Dietz.  She was the last immediate member of her family.

Mrs. Eckert was a member of the Queen of the World Church, the Quarter Century Club of the Stackpole Carbon Company, and AARP.  She enjoyed reading, crocheting, quilt making, and she especially enjoyed being with her family.

A Funeral Service will be celebrated in the Queen of the World on Monday, December, 8, 2014, at 10:00 AM, with the Rev. Richard Allen, Pastor, officiating.  Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Visitation is at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Sunday, December 7, 2014, from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.

Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Elk Haven Nursing Home, 785 Johnsonburg Road, St. Marys, PA  15857; the Guardian Angel Center, PO Box 24, Kersey, PA  15846; or to a favorite charity.

So sorry to hear of the passing of your Mother. She sure was an amazing woman and you were blessed to have her as your Mother. Such a large family that will miss her along with countless friends and may God give you all the strength to get through this and carry on her love.

What a long wonderful life Fran lived! She was such a good friend to mom. She had a posititve impact on so many of us in the neighborhood. Seems that she was always home, always inviting and never in a bad mood. Thanks for sharing her over the years!

I am very sorry to hear of Aunt Fran’s passing. 98 is a pretty good run though. She was a great lady and somehow put up with us Eckert kids when we visited. You all will be in our prayers.
