Rose M. Nelson

Rose NelsonRose M. Nelson, 86, a resident of Elk Haven Nursing Home and formerly of 397 Berwind Street, passed away Monday, December 1, 2014, at Elk Haven after a lengthy illness.

She was born December 11, 1928 in St. Marys, daughter of the late Joseph and Kathryn Meklar Steinbach.  She was a lifelong resident of the area and attended St. Marys schools.  She was a retired cafeteria worker at the South St. Marys Street Elementary School.

On December 26, 1951 she married Roy Oscar Nelson, who preceded her in death on November 11, 2011.

She is survived by two daughters, Cheryl Schwentner and her husband Alan of St. Marys and Darcy Wilson and her husband Andrew of Tyrone; a son, Kerry Nelson of Harrisburg; four grandchildren, Emily Wilson, Hope Wilson, Grace Wilson, and Dessie Schwentner; and one brother, John Steinbach of St. Marys.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Penny Nelson, who died in infancy; three sisters, Marie “Honey” Emmert, Catherine “Katie” Fortier, and Theresa Cherry; and four brothers, Joseph Steinbach, Tony Steinbach, Albert Steinbach, and Raymond Steinbach.

Mrs. Nelson was a member of the First United Methodist Church.  She enjoyed cooking, baking, and being with her family and friends.

Funeral Services will be held in the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 3, 2014, at 11:00 AM, with the Rev. Tim Hoover officiating.  Burial will follow in the Oakmont Cemetery in Ridgway.

Visitation is at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home Wednesday morning from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.

I am very sorry to hear about Rose. She was my first friend when I started at South St. Marys School Cafeteria. We went to Aerobics together with her daughter Cheryl. She has a place in heaven.
