Charles J. Donachy

Charles DonachyCharles J. Donachy, 88, of 136 Wendel Road, St. Marys, passed away Thursday, October 16, 2014, at Penn Highlands DuBois after an illness of the past month.

He was born April 3, 1926 in St. Marys, son of the late Charles Everett and Leona Kreckel Donachy. He was a lifelong resident of the area and attended St. Marys Public Schools.  He retired from Stackpole Carbon Company in 1987 with almost 40 years of service.  After his retirement, he delivered products for Printing Plus.

On August 23, 1947 in the Sacred Heart Church, he married Catherine A. O’Connor, who survives. He is also survived by two daughters, Carolyn Zilkofski and her husband Roger of Johnsonburg and Deanna Young and her husband Jim of St. Marys; six grandchildren, Jeffrey T. (Jenn Huber) Schatz, Debbie (John Naglich) Schatz, Janis Young, Eric (Sabina) Young, Barbara (Steven) Groba, and Julie Young; five great grandchildren, Allison Schatz, Bailey Schatz, Nathan Schatz, Casey Schatz, and Jonah Schatz; two brothers, Arthur James “Jim” Donachy and his wife Nadine of Richmond, VA and John “Jack” Donachy and his wife Betty of St. Marys; and by several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert “Schultz” Donachy; and a sister-in-law, Flossie Donachy.

Mr. Donachy was a veteran of WWII having served in the US Navy as a Gunner’s Mate Second Class on the USS Reuben James DE153. He was an avid golfer and was a former member of the Elk County Country Club.  He enjoyed fishing in his younger years and played in the St. Marys Adult Softball League on the Stackpole Carbon Team.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Queen of the World Church on Monday, October 20, 2014, at 12:00 PM, with the Rev. Richard Allen, Pastor, officiating. Full military rites will be accorded by the St. Marys Servicemen’s Burial Detail.  Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Visitation is at the Queen of the World Church on Monday morning from 10:00 AM until Mass time.

Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Community Nurses, Inc., 757 Johnsonburg Road, Suite 200, St. Marys, PA 15857; Elk County Catholic School System, Advancement Office, 600 Maurus Street, St. Marys, PA  15857; or to the St. Marys Servicemen’s Burial Detail, 168 Center Street, St. Marys, PA  15857.

Mr. Donachy was a sweet man; he will be missed at the dialysis unit. May you find comfort in the memories you have of him.
