David J. Hefter

Dave HefterDavid J. Hefter, 67, of 162 Larch Road, St. Marys, PA, passed away Tuesday, October 14, 2014, at his residence, after a short battle with pancreatic cancer.

He was born November 10, 1946 in Detroit, Michigan, son of the late Roland Hefter and Christina LaBuda Hefter, who survives of Michigan. He was a graduate of DeLaSalle Collegiate High School, and attended Henry Ford Community College, Wayne State University, and The University of Michigan.  Dave was a former resident of Lakewood, Colorado and most recently, St. Marys, Pennsylvania.

Dave began his career at Ford Motor Company through an apprenticeship in 1965. In 1973, he was recognized for his suggestion for a panel insert that Ford implemented, resulting in a significant cost savings on the Torino GT.

After his career at Ford, he consulted for many companies throughout the United States and Europe, including the City of Raleigh, North Carolina, Dover Elevator, Reiter Automotive, Bosch GmbH, Osram Sylvania North America, Osram GmbH, Case/New Holland Equipment, and the Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) of New York. He cherished the friendships he made while at Ford and the MTA.

An avid reader, Dave especially enjoyed the works of Dean Koontz and Stephen King. He loved to travel, always having a plan in place to see the best sights. He enjoyed deep sea fishing, and became a scuba diving instructor. He also spent countless volunteer hours at the Scrip Program at the Elk County Catholic School System.

On August 17, 1998 at the Poconos, he married Mary Catalone, who survives. In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by his daughter, Jennifer (Danny Dee) Baisley, of Crossville, Tennessee; his son, Zachary Hefter at home, of whom he was so proud; and his granddaughter, Daisy Mae Baisley. His Catalone Family will miss his many travel stories and his uncanny ability to solve any mechanical problem with precision. He is also survived by his sister, Barbara (John) Scot, and a brother, Daniel (Linda) Hefter, both of Michigan.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Service which will be held in the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Center Street in St. Marys on Friday, October 17, 2014, at 7:45 PM, with the Rev. Ross Miceli officiating.

Visitation is at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Friday evening from 6:00 PM until the time of service at 7:45 PM.

Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Community Nurses, Inc., 757 Johnsonburg Road, Suite 200, St. Marys, PA  15857.
