Marie A. Schaut

Marie SchautMarie A. Schaut, 85, of Church Street, St. Marys, passed away Tuesday, June 3, 2014, at the Ridgmont Assisted Living Facility.

She was born November 26, 1928 in St. Marys, daughter of the late Edward and Amanda (Wolf) Wolfel, Sr.  She was a lifelong resident of the area and was a 1946 graduate of Central Catholic High School.  Marie had been employed at Sears Roebuck and Stackpole Carbon.

On July 31, 1948 in the St. Mary’s Church, she married her high school sweetheart, Paul J. Schaut, who survives.  Also surviving are five children, June Schaut of Pittsburgh, Dennis Schaut and his wife Ann of Rochester, NY, Daniel “Butch” Schaut and his wife Kim of St. Marys, Jeffrey Schaut and his wife Sue of St. Marys, and Pauline Schaut of Richmond, VA; 11 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; a brother, Fr. Daniel Wolfel, OSB of St. Marys; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Martha Wold and Edna Brennen; and three brothers, Robert Wolfel, James Wolfel and Edward Wolfel, Jr.

Marie was a member of the St. Mary’s Church Altar Society and the church choir, St. Marys Country Club, and Bavarian Hills.  She volunteered at Catholic schools cafeterias, Meals on Wheels, as a dialysis driver, hospital auxiliary, and was past president of the St. Marys Women’s Club.

An avid bowler, golfer, and bridge player, Marie also enjoyed gardening, crocheting, and all types of crafts.  She traveled extensively here and abroad.  Marie was a very selfless person and will be missed dearly by her family and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the St. Mary’s Church on Friday, June 6, 2014, at 11:00 AM with the Rev. Daniel Wolfel, OSB, her brother, and Rev. Thomas More Sikora, OSB, Pastor, concelebrating.  Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Visitation is at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Thursday, June 5, 2014, from 5:00 until 8:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the St. Mary’s Church, 325 Church Street, St. Marys, PA  15857 or to the Elk County Catholic School System, 600 Maurus Street, St. Marys, PA  15857.

and June, Denny, Butch, Jeff and Pauline, your Mom. She loved life so much and went out of her way to be helpful to others.
