Richard A. Wortman, Sr.

Richard A. Wortman, Sr., 77, of 1069 Johnsonburg Road, St. Marys, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, November 18, 2012 at his residence.

He was born September 17, 1935 in St. Marys, son of the late Andrew and Lorina Benninger Wortman.  He was a lifelong resident of the area and attended St. Marys schools.  He was a retired employee of the Airco Corporation and Windfall Products.  He had also owned his own cleaning business, Wortman Cleaning Services.

On January 31, 1959 in St. Marys, he married Joan D. Caskey, who preceded him in death on September 29, 2000.

He is survived by three daughters, Cindy (Mark) Lanzel of St. Marys, Maureen Schneider of St. Marys, Sherrie Sanford of Big Rapids, MI; two sons, Richard A. (Sue) Wortman, Jr. of Kersey and Andrew A. (Terri) Wortman of St. Marys; four grandchildren; and one great granddaughter.  Also surviving are three sisters, Rose Rippy of St. Marys, Josephine Oxley of Roseburg, OR and Ruth Burganza of Punxsutawney, PA; and a brother, William (Marge) Wortman of St. Marys.

Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by six sisters, Delores Kolinoski, Alberta Sporner, Regina Klink, Margaret Jacob and, in infancy, Rose Wortman and Teresa Wortman; and five brothers, Charles Wortman, Howard Wortman, Leonard Wortman and, in infancy, Charles Wortman and Paul Wortman.

Mr. Wortman was a member of the St. Mary’s Church.

There will be no visitation.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated in the St. Mary’s Church on Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at 12:00 PM with the Rev. Thomas More Sikora, OSB, officiating.  Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Elk County Humane Society, 1029 East Eschbach Road, St. Marys, PA  15857.
