Leroy Edward Wolfe

LeRoy Edward Wolfe, 95, a resident of Elk Haven Nursing Home and formerly of Silver Creek Terrace and Kersey, passed away Wednesday, July 25, 2018, at Elk Haven, after a brief illness.

He was born April 23, 1923, in St. Marys, son of the late Michael Wolf, Sr. and Julia Hoffman Wolf. He was a lifelong resident of the area and attended schools in the State of California.  LeRoy was a retired United States Navy Veteran, retiring in 1960.  He served during World War II and the Korean Conflict, and was present at the bombing of Pearl Harbor and when the ship, USS Leary, went under.  LeRoy was also a retired custodian, working at the former Ames Department Store in St. Marys, the Pennsylvania Public School System, and Fox Township Elementary School.  He was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association and the St. Boniface Church.

On June 25, 1956, in Galeton, PA, LeRoy married Ursula Marie Pearson, who preceded him in death on December 22, 1999.

He is survived by his beloved great niece, LouAnn Tamburlin of Kersey; and by numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, LeRoy was preceded in death by seven sisters, Marian, who died at five months old, Julia (Anthony) Ginther, Carolyn (Clarence) Powell, Amanda (Ed) Wolfel, Nora (Floyd) Herbstritt, Alvina (Joseph) Schreiber, and Clare (Joseph) Foster; and by eight brothers, Michael (Barbara) Wolf, Jr., Urban “Chaney” (Christine) Wolf, Aloysius, who died at 10 months old, Herman (Ruth) Wolf, Benedict (Agnes) Wolf, Frederick (Kathryn) Wolf, Gustave (Helen) Wolf, and by a brother in infancy. He was the last member of his immediate family.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the St. Boniface Church on Friday, July 27, 2018, at 12:00 PM, with the Rev. Ross Miceli, Pastor, officiating. Full military rites will be accorded by the Fox Township Servicemen’s Burial Detail.  Burial will follow in the St. Boniface Cemetery.

Visitation is at the St. Boniface Church Gathering Space on Friday from 11:00 AM until the time of Mass.
