Florian J. “Stony” Samick

Florian J. “Stony” Samick, 94, of 74 Erie Avenue, St. Marys, and formerly of West Creek Road, passed away Thursday, March 1, 2018, at Penn Highlands Elk after a brief illness.

He was born September 20, 1923, in St. Marys, son of the late Jerome M. and Frances Geyer Samick. He was a lifelong resident of the area and attended St. Marys Public Schools.  Stony was a retired employee of the Pure Carbon Company, retiring in 1985, after 31 years of service.

On May 21, 1946, in the Sacred Heart Church, Stony married Lucille M. Wagner, who survives. He is also survived by two daughters, Christine Lilja of Brockway and Jean Krug and her husband Donald of St. Marys; a son, John M. Samick and his wife Barbara of St. Marys; five grandchildren, Jacqueline Manno, Jeffrey Lilja, Jason Krug, Adam Krug, and Michael Samick; and by 14 great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Stony was preceded in death by a son, Ronald L. Samick in 1974; two sisters, Mildred Neilson and Imelda Schneider; and by three brothers, Paul, Jerome Jr., and Jordan Samick. He was the last member of his immediate family.

Stony was a member of the Queen of the World Church and was a veteran of the US Army, having served during World War II. He was a member of the St. Marys Moose, the American Legion, and was a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus.

There will be no visitation.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated in the Queen of the World Church on Saturday, March 3, 2018, at 1:00 PM, with the Rev. Jeff Noble, Pastor, officiating. Full military rites will be accorded by the St. Marys Servicemen’s Burial Detail.  Burial will follow in Parklawn Memorial Gardens.

Deepest sympathy to Lucille, John, Christine and Jean. Stony you will be missed. How fortunte to spend time with you this past summer. May you rest in eternal peace.
