Marjorie C. Schaut

marjorie-schautMarjorie C. Schaut, 96, a resident of Elk Haven Nursing Home and formerly of Chestnut Street, St. Marys, passed away Monday, October 10, 2016, at Penn Highlands Elk, after a brief illness.

She was born October 30, 1919, in St. Marys, daughter of the late Joseph W. and Clara Weber Jacob. She was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of Central Catholic High School, Class of 1937, graduating as Salutatorian of her class.  She was a former secretary at the St. Marys Insurance Company.

On February 5, 1944, in the St. Mary’s Church, she married Robert C. Schaut, who preceded her in death on September 12, 1995.

Marjorie is survived by a daughter, Judith A. Tate and her husband James of St. Marys; a son, Donald R. Schaut and his wife Mary Beth of St. Marys; three grandchildren, Angela (Troy) Bennett, Kelly (Justin) Salyards, and Robert (Michelle) Schaut; and by four great grandchildren, Kaylie Bennett, Owen Salyards, Henry Schaut, and Clara Schaut.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert E. Jacob and James J. Jacob. She was the last member of her immediate family.

Marjorie was a member of the St. Mary’s Church. She always prayed for her family and friends in her prayer corner at her home.  She loved her home, writing poetry, and drawing.

There will be no visitation.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated in the St. Mary’s Church on Thursday, October 13, 2016, at 11:00 AM, with the Rev. Alfred Patterson, OSB, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Memorials, if desired, may be made to the St. Mary’s Church, 325 Church Street, St. Marys, PA 15857, or to the Elk Haven Nursing Home, Activity Department, 785 Johnsonburg Road, St. Marys, PA  15857.

Our thoughts are with you and your family. Marjorie led a good life and she leaves a valuable legacy through her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. God was surely pleased to welcome her home.
