Edwin G. “Junie” Gahr, Jr.

Edwin GahrEdwin G. “Junie” Gahr, Jr., 88, a resident of Pinecrest Manor and formerly of 398 Main Street, Kersey, passed away Wednesday, August 10, 2016, at Pinecrest Manor, after a lengthy illness.

He was born December 25, 1927, in Kersey, son of the late Edwin G. and Agnes Heigel Gahr, Sr. He was a lifelong resident of the area and attended Kersey Schools.  He was a former employee of the Keystone Carbon Company and GKN.

On June 2, 1951, in the Holy Rosary Church in Johnsonburg, he married Rita Santaniello, who survives. He is also survived by two daughters, Cindy Dippold and her husband Terry of St. Marys and Patti Gerber and her husband Steve of Kersey; a son, Gary Gahr and his wife Debbie of Kersey; five grandchildren, Nathan Dippold, Tracy Uhl, Shawn Meyer, Trevor Gahr, and Tyler Gahr; five great grandchildren, Alaina Uhl, Dominic Uhl, Cadence Uhl, Akemi Meyer, and Timothy Meyer; a sister, Jean Vollmer and her husband Dennis of St. Marys; a brother, Joe Gahr and his wife Mary of Kersey; and by two sisters-in-law, Patty Gahr of St. Marys and Joan Armanini of Ridgway.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Sidelinger; and by two brothers, Bill and Jerry Gahr.

Junie was a member of the St. Boniface Church and was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in WWII. He was a former member of the Fox Twp. Servicemen’s Burial Detail.  He was an American Red Cross blood donor, was a lifetime member of the Fox Twp. Volunteer Firemen, and was a member of the American Legion, St. Marys Ambulance, and Kersey Eagles.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the St. Boniface Church on Saturday, August 13, 2016, at 10:00 AM, with the Rev. Ross Miceli, Pastor, officiating. Full military rites will be accorded by the Fox Twp. Servicemen’s Burial Detail.  Burial will be in Parklawn Memorial Gardens.

Visitation is at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Friday evening, from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.

Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 1128 State Street, Suite 301, Erie, PA 16501-1920, or to a favorite charity.

So sorry to read of my Kersey Main Street neighbor. Always enjoyed chatting with Junie, at the bank maybe, or shopping… My sympathy to his family.
