Leo R. Gabor

Leo R. Gabor, 79, of 172 Sara Road, St. Marys, passed away Wednesday, August 3, 2016, at his home, after a lengthy illness.

He was born April 27, 1937, in Byrnedale, son of the late Matthew and Mary Verdon Gabor. He was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of the Weedville High School, Class of 1955.  He had worked at Stackpole Carbon Company and retired from Carbone in 1999 after 44 years of service.

On September 5, 1959, in the Queen of the World Church, he married Mary F. Savel, who survives. He is also survived by a daughter, Christine F. Liptak and her husband Richard of Byrnedale; and a son, Richard L. Gabor and his wife Cynthia of Lake City; two grandchildren, Angela and Matthew; two great grandchildren; and a brother, Jacob Gabor and his wife Elizabeth of Byrnedale.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Gardner and Ann Rusnock; and four brothers, John, Joseph, Andrew, and Raymond Gabor.

Leo was a member of the Queen of the World Church. He volunteered for Meals on Wheels, was a blood donor, and helped at Queen of the World with their bake sales.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, building blue bird boxes, and he loved being a bee keeper.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Queen of the World Church on Saturday, August 6, 2016, at 10:00 AM, with the Rev. Richard Allen, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Visitation is at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Friday from 5:00 until 8:00 PM.

Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Queen of the World Church, 134 Queens Road, St. Marys, PA 15857, the Hahne Regional Cancer Center, 100 Hospital Avenue, DuBois, PA  15801, or to the Community Nurses, Inc., 757 Johnsonburg Road, Suite 200, St. Marys, PA  15857.

Rick,
Sorry to hear about Leo’s passing. I remember when he used to go by here for his daily walks. If he saw me, he would stop and chat. I would have came to the viewing, but didn’t read the paper till after it was over.
