Viola B. Wright

Viola WrightViola B. Wright, 96, a resident of Elk Haven Nursing Home for the past three years and formerly of 19 Mertz Avenue, St. Marys, passed away Wednesday, January 20, 2016, at Elk Haven.

She was born November 1, 1919, in St. Marys, daughter of the late Andrew and Eleanor Ehrensberger Baumgratz. She was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of St. Marys High School, Class of 1937.  Viola retired from the Andrew Kaul Memorial Hospital in 1981 after 23 years of service.  She served as Social Service Director for 15 years prior to her retirement.

On May 6, 1939, in the St. Mary’s Church, she married Eugene V. “Whitey” Wright who preceded her in death on October 10, 1978.

Viola is survived by a daughter, Phyllis Grotzinger and her husband John of St. Marys; two sons, Ronald C. Wright of Heath, OH and Eugene A. Wright and his wife Denise of Brockway; 11 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren; and a brother, Carl Baumgratz of St. Marys.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Janet Prechtl; a granddaughter, Amy Lynn Grotzinger in 1965; a sister, Mary Jane Schauer; and three brothers, Paul Baumgratz, Merle Baumgratz, and Regis Baumgratz.

Viola was a member of the Queen of the World Church and the Altar Society. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America and after her retirement, she held offices with the CD of A for many years.  She enjoyed playing bingo and spending time with her family and friends at get-togethers.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Sacred Heart Church on Friday, January 29, 2016, at 10:00 AM, with the Rev. Eric Vogt, OSB, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Visitation is at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Thursday, January 28, 2016, from 5:00 until 8:00 PM.

Memorials, if desired, may be made to a favorite charity.
