Elvera E. Swanson

Elvera SwansonElvera E. Swanson, 96, of 123 Ridge Road, Kersey, passed away Sunday, August 23, 2015, at her home.

She was born September 28, 1918, in Toby, daughter of the late Albino and Maria Theresa DeBenne Gradizzi. She was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of Kersey High School, Class of 1936. She was a former employee of Brockway Glass and had also worked as a secretary for the Elk County Mutual Insurance Company.

On January 12, 1937, in the Holy Cross Church in Brandy Camp, she married George A. Swanson, who preceded her in death on September 5, 1999.

She is survived by a daughter, Patricia Vollmer of Toby; four sons, Charles A. Swanson (Vondalee) of Toby, George R. Swanson (Ann) of Kersey, Robert W. Swanson (Kathy) of Kersey, and Paul E. Swanson (Margaret) of Kersey; 26 grandchildren; 55 great grandchildren; 19 great, great grandchildren; a son-in-law, Pierre Pontzer of Kersey; and a sister-in-law, Angeline Gradizzi of Kersey.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two daughters, Esther Pontzer and Elvera Swanson, who died in infancy; three sisters, Mary Cherubini, Ermenia Banal, and Armenia Gradizzi who died in infancy; and three brothers, Silvio Gradizzi, and two brothers who died in childhood. She was the last member of her immediate family.

Elvera was a member of the St. Boniface Church and the Rosary Society. She was also a member of the Toby Grange, the Pamona Grange, and the Fox Township Lioness Club.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated in the St. Boniface Church on Wednesday, August 26, 2015, at 10:30 AM, with the Rev. Ross Miceli, Pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the St. Boniface Cemetery.

Visitation is at the St. Boniface Church on Wednesday from 9:30 until 10:30 AM.

Such a dear lady with a kind smile and a kind heart. And such a huge family legacy she leaves behind. She will be remembered always.
