Jerome J. Cavalline

Jerome J. Cavalline, 71, of 324 Ash Street, St. Marys, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, February 14, 2013, at the Elk Regional Health Center.

He was born March 19, 1941 in Coal Hollow, son of the late Louis P. and Marie Malone Cavalline.  He was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of Kersey High School, Class of 1959.  He was a former employee of the Stackpole Carbon Company, Speer Carbon, Elk Regional Health Center and was also a former school bus driver.

On September 26, 1986, in the Nazareth Lutheran Church in Wilcox, he married Julie A. Johnson, who survives.  He is also survived by two daughters, Tracy McDonald and her husband Joseph of Oil City and Jamie Cavalline of St. Marys; two sons, John Cavalline and his wife Darcy of Manlius, NY and Aaron Cavalline and his wife Sarah of Erie; 11 grandchildren, Isabella, Talia, Victoria, Christina, Alyson, Tessa, Sydney, Makenzie, Gianna, Sawyer and Megan; two sisters, Karen Verbeck and her fiancée John “Yogi” Lang of Kersey and Denise Sago and her husband James of Kersey; and a brother, Richard Cavalline and his wife Jeanne of St. Marys.

Mr. Cavalline was a member of the Sacred Heart Church, served for 46 years as a volunteer fireman with the Crystal Fire Department, served 11 years with the PA National Guard and served in the US Army from 1959 to 1961.  He was certified as an EMT Instructor, AMA Instructor, American Red Cross Instructor, Advanced First Aid Instructor and Assistant PA State Fire School Instructor.  At the Crystal Fire Department, he served as fireman, captain, lieutenant, secretary, parade chairman, picnic chairman and fire police.  Among his hobbies, he enjoyed golfing, gardening, wood-working, hunting and fishing.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Sacred Heart Church on Monday, February 18, 2013 at 1:00 PM with the Rev. Eric Vogt, OSB, Pastor, as celebrant.  Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Visitation is at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home on Sunday evening, from 6:00 to 9:00 PM.

Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Crystal Fire Department, PO Box C, St. Marys, PA  15857.

I am so deeply sorry for your loss. It has been many years but I still remember what a wonderful friend Jerry was and what a wonderful couple you were. I am praying that God will give you and Jamie the strength to get through this. Hold on to the memories and remember Jerry will always be looking down from heaven on you and Jamie. Growing up with him in Dagus Mines, I could only ever praise him for his kindness & need to help others. The whole community will miss seeing Jerry around. We will keep you all in our thoughts and prayers. Please know we are here if you may need us in any way.
